Russell Crowe And The Auction...Movie memorabilia for sale.

Russell Crowe informed fans via his official Twitter account and the traditional news sources that he was selling off some of the personal possessions he had collected over the years including movie and sporting memorabilia, guitars, watches, Australian art, jewellery, cars and a motorcycle.

Perhaps what was exciting for movie fans was the collection of movie memorabilia. There are approximately 52 items of memorabilia from his movies including Proof (1991), Romper Stomper (1992), The Silver Brumby (1994), The Sum Of Us (1994), Virosity (1995), LA Confidential (1997), Mystery Alaska (1999), The Insider (1999), Gladiator (2000), Cinderella Man (2005), Master and Commander (2005), American Gangster (2007), 3:10 Yuma (2007), State of Play (2009), Robin Hood (2010), The Next Three Days (2010), Les Miserables (2012), The Water Diviner (2014) and Noah (2014).

The Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph writes about some of the items available... "Movie buffs will be most excited about the rare memorabilia that is up for grabs. There is the amour Crowe wore as the gladiator Maximus, which is expected to fetch up $30 000, and the sword used to kill the tiger in the hit movie, which could reach $4 000. Most impressive is the fully working chariot from the set valued at between $5 000 and $10 000.

For fans of Crowe's earlier work there are the Dr Martens boots he wore in Romper Stomper, which are valued at up to $15 000...

The 'tuning" includes the 1890 Italian violin Crowe used as Captain Jack Aubrey in Master and Commander, which is valued at up to $145000. He learnt to play the violin especially for the movie, studying for three months with the Australian Chamber Orchestra's Richard Tognetti. 'Captain Aubrey's violin has a special place in my heart. It's serious concert violin and it should be played rather just sit accusingly across from me in my office gathering dust." Crowe said..."

The auction is called 'The Art of Divorce' and is on Russell's birthday 7 April, 2018. The 7 April is also his 15th wedding anniversary. The online catalogue is an interesting read. There are photographs of the items and a brief description about each. The auction will be live-streamed via Sotheby's Australia.

I have included some screen shots from Russell Crowe's official Twitter account announcing the auction and advertising the catalogue.

I have also included a screen shot of my favourite item, a Brett Whiteley painting titled 'Morton Bay Fig and Palms (1974)'. I have fond memories of visiting the Brett Whiteley gallery in Sydney. The colours in this painting are amazing and l love his paintings.
Russell has tweeted photographs about Morten Bay Fig trees. As always no copyright infringement intended.
