Alan Doyle and TBG...A set list, some videos and a concert...

The Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies setlist at The City Winery in Chicago...

The photograph above is of one of a couple of the set lists that has been circulating for the Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies Tour of America in 2016 on social media.

This current set list is quite different and more inclusive than the set list created in the previous post and used to sell tickets across America. There were bootlegged videos attached that in my opinion were not of great quality and did not do Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies and their music justice.

Some of the songs included in that set list such as 'Dream of Home' and 'Fast As I Can' are not included on this tour. Patrons could expect a more upbeat and dancing in the isles kind of concert than a sit down concert as indicated in the set list being circulated.

I found a brilliant range of videos including professionally made videos, some recorded live in studios and some fan bootlegs that I thought told a wonderful story of the music from Great Big Sea, the Boy On Bridge CD through to the So Let’s Go CD.

Professionally made videos should also be included as they tell wonderful stories as well. Alan’s music transfers so well from the recorded version to the stage, therefore I have included an official version and a bootlegged version.

I found it particularly difficult to choose videos, as I really wanted to show the evolution of the music from an Alan Doyle solo album to the Alan Doyle Band to the Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies band.

I was lucky enough to find some bootlegged videos that I have never seen including some Great Big Sea songs for example 'A Boat Like Gideon Brown' and 'Wave Over Wave' which were shared by a regular Great Big Sea concert goer from the first section of the American tour this year. 'I Am A Sailor' and 'Wave Over Wave' are two of Alan’s favourite songs to sing live and so I included them here. I found a wonderful version recorded from the Tonder Festival in 2014.

I have also included some of the descriptions. Regular concert goer Larry Steves provides an interesting opinion about taping at a concert...“Taking videos is a PITA but not capturing this would have been a big mistake. It's not just for me but it's to preserve moments of musical beauty, which is what this is. It's for anyone who cares”.

From the above setlist…many of these videos will be familiar to Alan Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies fans.

Some of the bootlegged videos have been circulated on my Google + page.
